Personal History | Tana was born November 18th, 2340 in Vancouver, Canada. She had a normal and fun loving childhood. Her father was a structural engineer while her mother, a Betazoid, was a former artist turned dealer with her own gallery in the city. Despite enjoying the city, Tana and her brother would live for the weekends when their parents would take them into the mountains outside the city for hikes and camping. She learned to fish and hunt with her brother, though she was never a good shot and only could catch fish. Tana was enrolled in multiple forms of dance as a child and she thrived so much she developed a life long passion for dancing, especially Latin dances. She would often watch her mother paint and sculpt as a way to bond with her, eventually spending more and more time at her gallery once she opened it. Tana herself had no real talent for art but her mother made a concerted effort to bond with her over studying art from multiple species and cultures. Tana mainly enjoyed time she spent with her father as he worked in his office finding solutions to various issues on bridges and infrastructure for different planets. Seeing an interest and talent in his daughter, From the age of eight onward, Christopher would occasionally take Tana off-world with him when he was needed on site to survey a problem. This would be the catalyst of Tana's enjoyment of problem solving and analytics, something that her parents would encourage as Tana struggled with her mental discipline regarding her empathic abilities and being able to focus and regulate the impact the emotions of others had on her. She found puzzles and solving complex logical problems helped her focus and work through these struggles. Throughout high school, Tana was involved in various activities and sports including the track and field team and becoming the captain of her school's volleyball team. She thought she would follow after her mother and go off to private university to study art history but her senior year felt this would be a hollow pursuit and a hobby at best. She found the subject to not be stimulating enough. After careful consideration and consultation with her parents, Tana decided to join Starfleet. She found herself drawn to the Intelligence program as it was both stimulating and challenging for her while also feeling as though she was having a larger impact on the Federation and helping the most people. Tana's years at the Academy would be described as average to those of most cadets. She participated on the track and field team, performed well in her studies and participated in many school functions and had a large group of friends that regularly teased her about her admiration for questionable captains who were willingness to bend the rules if it meant doing the right thing, which she took good-naturedly. Tana took advanced interrogation training due to her psionic abilities and upon graduation but decided she needed hands on experience working on a starship that was set for the Federation-Cardassian border. Upon graduation in 2361, Tana was assigned to the USS Rutledge as a junior officer. Given the tense relationship with the Federation and Cardassia at this time, she mostly was assigned off ship to do recon and intelligence gathering on the enigmatic race. Her team failed to pick up the intel regarding Cardassian transmissions and concerns of a Federation assault being staged from Setlik III until it was too late. Though she was not present at the massacre, the event did hit the ensign hard. It only strengthened her resolve on preventing threats before they became viable. It was through such work and regular meetings and debriefings with the chief tactical officer that she fell in love with, Alinar Vasatra. Their mutual empathic abilities, as well as the El-Aurian's bravery and strong morals made them a good match, though they were not without their issues. The fact Alinar was such a passionate and independent man caused a fair amount of heated arguments. Despite their faults as a couple, they got on very well and were able to arrange their reassignment to the USS Yellowstone together. Tana served as assistant chief intelligence officer on the Yellowstone when Wolf 359 occurred. With the ship struggling to stay in one piece during the attack, she made herself useful in main Engineering and helped to keep tactical systems and engines online long enough for the battle. Her promotion to chief was made permanent after the battle and Tana sit in on debriefings from Borg assault at Startfleet Command while the Yellowstone was in dry dock for repairs the subsequent weeks. Tana was devastated to find that Alinar had resigned his commission and after a series of fierce arguments over the matter, their future together and his convictions, Tana made the painful decision to end the relationship. When he joined the Maquis, a group she viewed as nothing more than terrorists, she was furious and severed all contact or associations with the man. Instead, she focused on her career and role as Chief Intelligence Officer on the Yellowstone. When news broke that Alinar was arrested and imprisoned in 2373, she made it known that she felt he was where he belonged. Throughout the Dominion war, Tana performed her duties admirably and was known to come up with some quick, out of the box solutions when in a crunch. Because of her position as a department head, she did far less field work and mostly worked on analyzing the data from various field officers and coordinating with both strategic officers and Starfleet Intelligence on where to send agents and disseminating data recovered. Following the war, when Captain Didier resigned, the new captain brought in a series of changes in both ship policy and personnel to the Yellowstone that Tana clashed with and it was agreed by all parties it was best she took on a new assignment as the ship was never the same. |
